Indigenizing Pedagogies: Teachers as Native Nation Builders
What is Indigenizing Pedagogies?
Given the unique social and political realities within Indigenous communities, this is central to the process of indigenizing teaching within the realm of Tribal sovereignty, self-determination and self-education.
In this seminar students will explore and engage in analyses and reflective dialogues around the historical and contemporary aspects of Native American policies and practices in education.
During the seminar, the students will be provided the opportunity to share their observations, questions, and on-going self-reflections as they become teachers who contextualize education as nation-building.
Students will continuously work to conceptualize what it means to indigenize their curriculum and pedagogy in ways that preserve and privilege Indigenous knowledge systems and languages in Indigenous communities.
